Search snippets from any app

Global search is for the moment when you know what you need but do not remember the trigger. Open it without switching back to the editor.

Updated August 3, 2026

Open and use search

Open the search palette

Use the configured global shortcut. The current default shown in SnippetCraft materials is ⌥⇧F.

Type a remembered detail

Search by snippet name, description, or tag. You do not need the exact trigger.

Navigate from the keyboard

Move through the results and choose the item you need without opening the full editor.

Write metadata for retrieval

A snippet called “Reply 3” is difficult to search. A name such as “Refund approved reply,” a description explaining the situation, and tags such as billing or refund make the same item discoverable.

Search: rollback production

Result name: Roll back production release
Description: Restore the previous deploy after a failed health check
Tags: release, rollback, ops

Triggers and search complement each other

Use triggers for the small group you remember and run constantly. Use global search for the larger knowledge library. This prevents trigger memorization from becoming the limit on how many snippets you can keep.

If search does not open

Confirm SnippetCraft is running and check whether the shortcut conflicts with another Mac app. If the palette opens but a snippet is missing, verify its name, description, tags, and saved state in Main.
